Day 217
Ezra 1-2:70; 1 Corinthians 1:18-2:5; Psalm 27:7-14; Proverbs 20:22-23
Stumbling Wisdom
The Jews wanted a mighty prince. The Greeks wanted a great philosopher or teacher. Both of these people groups had trouble believing in a man who claimed to be the Messiah but could not save Himself from death on a cross.
The world has trouble comprehending a leader who would die for our mistakes. It doesn’t seem logical. Fortunately, God has called/shown us how this does make sense in light of His law and our sin. Paul, in Corinthians, is showing us how God does not operate like the world, and yet we are still in danger as believers of falling into the traps of this world.
Satan now uses our pride and arrogance as believers to miss the big picture, which is “Christ and him crucified.” We now have infighting within the body of believers as to what are acceptable styles of worship. Is an organ better for worship or is a guitar? Is it better to be sprinkled or dunked when it comes to baptism? Are we predestined or is it complete free will?
None of these things should be the reason for divisions among believers, because ultimately our salvation rests in the fact that Christ was crucified for our sins, and that is the message that you cannot preach enough of to yourself and to others. Don’t let your faith “rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”
