Do It All for God’s Glory
Today’s passage contains a verse that gives an application to all of life:
“Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” – 1 Cor. 10:31
That’s a huge charge given by Paul! I believe it contains two things to ponder in your own life today.
First, we are called by God to honor Him with our food and beverage intake. There is no doubt that Paul is drawing off of some of his other words concerning honoring our bodies as God’s temple. He mentions this theme on multiple occasions, meaning it is worth a thought. In this case, it was actually a stumbling block for those who viewed them as followers of Christ.
The same can be said of our culture today as we live in a society that indulges in pleasure over honoring the Lord. So for starters today, are you honoring God with what you put into your body?
Secondly, I would say it is a challenge to give God full glory in our lives. I often come across people who look at God as a giant piñata, we hit Him up for things, and when He gives us the good stuff, we think He is the greatest thing ever.
It is easy to praise a God who just gives you your desires no matter what the request, but what happens when the answer to a request is no? We get angry at God, soon forgetting the blessings He has poured out not long before.
A big part of glorifying God is accepting His provision even when it hurts a little, knowing that joy comes in the morning. Does God get glory no matter what, or do our circumstances dictate our praise?
Today the challenge is to honor God in all things and to give Him glory.
