Day 281
Jeremiah 10:1-11:23; Colossians 3:18-4:18; Psalm 78:56-72, Proverbs 24:28-29
Revering The King of The Nations
Jeremiah 10:7a (NIV) – “Who should not revere you, O King of the nations? This is your due.”
As our culture becomes increasingly secular it is more important than ever for the people who believe in Almighty God to say so. Jeremiah said it this way: “No one is like you, O LORD; you are great, and your name is mighty in power… Among all the wise men of the nations and in all their kingdoms, there is no one like you” (10:6, 7b).
Why is there no one like the Lord? Jeremiah described God in these actions: “These gods, who did not make the heavens and the earth, will perish from the earth and from under the heavens. But God made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding” (10:11-12).
So, we who belong to the Lord of Life and the God of Creation will have to be the voices that proclaim faith in God. We cannot count on culture to do it. Even holidays set aside to recognize the uniqueness of Jesus Christ – His birth and His resurrection – have become secular holidays stripped of their powerful spiritual witness. They are now “happy holidays” filled with good thoughts, presents, candies, time out of school, and mythology that hints at – but is forbidden to witness to – the uniqueness of a living God and His Son, Jesus Christ.
It is up to us not to be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, for it is the power of salvation for everyone who believes, and to revere the King of our nation.
