Exodus 4:1-5:21; Matthew 18:1-22; Psalm 22:19-31; Proverbs 5:15-21

Give Us Grace, O Lord

Today’s readings from Exodus and Psalms speak about proclaiming the salvation of the Lord.

In Exodus, Moses doubts his own ability to get Israel to believe the word the Lord has given to him for Pharaoh. If his own people doubt Moses, how will he ever get Pharaoh to listen to the message? Yet, God tells Moses to use Aaron so that together they will speak all of the Lord’s words and display the Lord’s signs. Then they believed, for the LORD had visited His people; God had seen their affliction, causing Israel to bow their heads and worship.

The psalmist commits to the work of proclamation:

“I will declare your Name to my brethren; in the midst of the congregation I will praise you…. They shall come and make known to a people yet unborn the saving deeds that he has done.” – Psalm 22:22, 31

We are to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ, through our lives, words, signs, and testimonies, in the midst of those we know—to our family, friends and neighbors, and to those unknown to us. Let us with boldness accept the call of Christ to spread the truth of His gospel with confidence, love, and joy.

Give us grace, O Lord, to answer readily the call of our Savior Jesus Christ and proclaim to all people the Good News of his salvation. ~ The Book of Common Prayer
