Day 63
Numbers 2:1‐3:51; Mark 11:27‐12:17; Psalm 47:1‐9; Proverbs 10:24‐25
By Whose Authority?
In today’s Gospel, we find several instances of human reliance on authority when issues or conflict arise. We find Jesus’ authority questioned for no other reason than the fact that His teaching, preaching, and healing had come to challenge the “unquestionable authority” of the chief priests of the day.
With the secular mandate of taxes, and as a ploy to entrap Jesus, the issue of authority was once again raised where Jesus masterfully contrasted the worldly authority of Caesar, with the divine authority that can only come from God.
In the Parable of the Tenants, we see God’s kindness perceived as weakness where the “Landlord’s son,” as personified by Jesus, is robbed of any earthly authority which may have been granted to Him by His life. A life that was torturously stripped away and willfully purged of any shred of earthly authority and dignity, as He surrendered His life in order to demonstrate what real power and divine authority looks like to us, who are now called upon as followers of Christ in this generation to bear His witness
.May we on this day, come to accept this most precious gift of divine authority both in our hearts and in our lives, so that as the meek among His earthly flock, we find and exercise the courage it will take to live out God’s will for us in inheriting the earth. By God’s authority, this is your day. Claim it!
