David’s Cry for Triumph
As I read today’s Psalm, I am struck by the pleading done by David. He is sad and feeling far from God and begging God to show His face yet again. “How long will my enemy triumph over me?” he cries out. While some scholars speculate that David may have written this song as he was in battle with Saul, I get the sense that David’s enemy might well have been his own sin, and now he is wanting to rid himself of that burden and be freed to a life filled with light.
How many times in our lives when we are depressed over the way our lives are going have we been like David? How often have we have allowed sinful behavior to get in the way of our relationship with the Lord? Is it then that we finally turn back to God, knowing how much unfailing love He has for all His creation? Or do we seek release in the temporary things of this world? In my own life, I have found that only when I give it all to Jesus do I find the weight lifted – nothing else will do.
Dearest Lord Jesus, be the triumph in our lives this day! Help us to allow ourselves to place all our burdens at the foot of Your cross and leave them there. Amen.
