Day 248
Ecclesiastes 10:1-12:14; 2 Corinthians 8:1-15; Psalm 49:1-20; Proverbs 22:20-21
Is Life Really That Hard?
In comparison to those living in third world countries, Americans, even the most impoverished of us, live like kings. It’s easy to get so caught up in the things that we don’t have that we forget all the blessings we do have.
Life was quite difficult for the Corinthian Christians who were besieged because of their faith, persecuted and harassed. Yet it was to them that St. Paul went to ask for money for the people in Jerusalem who were suffering even more. He reminds them of their time, talent, and treasure, and more than that, reminds them that how they use the blessings of this life is a measurement of what they truly believe about God and their faith.
As hard as life can seem to be for us, there are others who would trade places with us in an instant. And we are to share the abundance of our blessings with others because, after all, we are one family in Christ.
