Day 149
2 Samuel 14:1-15:22; John 18:1-24; Psalm 119:97-112; Proverbs 16:8-9
A Lamp Unto My Feet
In the early 80’s, Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant took the words from Psalm 119 and created a very popular Christian song, titled “Thy Word.” “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path…and when I feel afraid, think I’ve lost my way, still you’re there right beside me…” What great advice the palmist offers us but yet how often we are hesitant to accept the words.
As we search for wisdom and knowledge in the secular world, we often overlook the one text, the one authority that gives us the wisdom and answers—the Bible. The Psalm teaches us that God gives us the wisdom and makes us wiser than our enemies, even having more insight than our teachers and more understanding than our elders. But gathering all this knowledge and wisdom is only a step on the path to enlightenment.
It’s important to realize that with wisdom comes application. We must take what we learn and apply this learning wisely in the world around us. If we stumble in the darkness of temptation and evil, it is comforting to know that the Bible is our light that will keep us on the path of righteousness.
