Day 244
Job 40:1- 42:17; 2 Corinthians 5:11-21; Psalm 45:1-17; Proverbs 22:14
New Creation
My five-year-old son loves to read books. Each night he picks out three books, and most nights he wants Daddy to read them to him. You could hear a pin drop as I am reading through his books. He is listening so intently. One night he chose to read a book about bugs; probably not the best choice due to his fear of bugs, but we read it anyway. We came to a section about caterpillars and butterflies. We read how the caterpillar is born and then crawls up on a leaf and makes a cocoon. An amazing transformation begins at this point. After some time the cocoon will open and a beautiful butterfly will appear.
It is amazing how God often uses these simple times with my son to remind me of His biblical truths. 2 Corinthians 5:17 is a powerful reminder of who every believer is in Christ:
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (NIV)
The ugly caterpillar is transformed into a new creation…a beautiful butterfly. All believers were once an ugly, sinful wreck and only through the transforming work of Christ on the cross could we be changed into a new creation. Those who trust in Christ as Lord and Savior will be made new. The old is gone and the new has come. Today, pray that God will give you continual reminders of the new life you have in Him and help others to see His powerful transforming work in you.
