Wisdom From On High
In the book of Job, chapter 28, we see in the first eleven verses how people search for value by looking down into the earth. There are gold and silver mines as well as mines for precious jewels. In our day we seem to value people biased on their net worth. Trump Towers and the towers of Dubai are among the highest valued real-estate on the planet. Did you ever wonder at their true value in the eyes of God? As the Tower of Babel, they too will be dust one day. Over the centuries many people have died in wars over the lands that contain the most precious minerals and richest farm lands. It often seems that the richest men and women are honored and respected far more than people who demonstrate great wisdom and charity.
According to Job, the gift of wisdom cannot be found among the living. It is natural for people who do not understand the wisdom of God’s Word to seek wisdom by following whichever philosopher is popular at the moment. Wisdom is more than knowledge and more than understanding; it comes from sitting quietly with Scripture, life experience, and listening for the Word of God in our hearts.
