Wisdom. Wonders. Willfulness. Wilderness.

Day 279

Jeremiah 6:15-8:7; Colossians 2:8-23; Psalm 78:1-31; Proverbs 24:26

Wisdom. Wonders. Willfulness. Wilderness.

In Psalm 78, written by Asaph, we find a lesson on Israel’s history. The words of the psalmist are a call to hear and recount the history of Israel. The first 4 verses emphasize passing along the wisdom of the Lord. “We will tell the next generation, the glorious deeds of the Lord, his might, and the wonders that he has done.”

Verses 5 to 8 state the purpose of remembering the history of Israel. “Teach them to your children… then they would put their trust in God… that they should not be like their fathers… who had a willfulness that was not faithful to God.”

Verses 9 to 31 describe Israel in Egypt and in the wilderness. The repeating cycle: “In the sight of their fathers God performed wonders in the land of Egypt.” Then the covenant is broken. “They did not keep God’s covenant, but refused to walk according to his law.”

May we now see the importance of sharing the testimony of God’s deeds and wonders in our journey with Jesus Christ.

Almighty God, heavenly Father, you have blessed us with glorious deeds and wonders which you have done: break our willfulness and keep us from wandering in the wilderness. Give us boldness and wisdom so that we share the testimony of our trust in you with every generation, and may we have an ever-deepening relationship with you following the example of our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
