A Promise of Wisdom
In this reading from Solomon’s Proverbs, we find hope in our quest for wisdom. Backing up to the first verse, Solomon writes:
“My son, accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find knowledge of God.” -Proverbs 2:1-5
I am moved by my own shortcomings when I don’t stop, take a breath, and listen for the word of wisdom before I do something I know will lead me down the wrong path. How often do I make a bad decision from a lack of thinking before I leap? How often I stop, after the fact, and wish I could have received this wisdom of which Solomon spoke?
“For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” -Proverbs 2:6
Too often, we allow our emotions to rule our actions, and so very often we find ourselves regretting our actions. Solomon tells us to “call out for insight.” How simple could it be if we only followed the advice from the great Solomon and listened to the words of the Lord? What decision or problem are you facing today that requires the Lord’s wisdom. Call out for insight in prayer to the Lord.
