Unlocking the Door of Our Hearts
Doors have a special place in the Bible. Jesus said if we knock, the door would be opened. We are called to enter through the narrow door. In many parables, those outside of the kingdom had the door closed on them. Doors are powerful. They protect and defend us and give us power to keep people out. What’s interesting is how many times God disregards doors. After the resurrection, Jesus enters a room whose door had been locked many different times. An angel opens the jailhouse doors to allow Peter to escape. Luke marvels at how “God opened a door of faith to the Gentiles,” and Paul found a door opened in Troas to preach the gospel.
When the Philadelphians had the synagogue door closed to them, God promised He had opened His door to them and no one would be able to shut it. Jesus had nothing good to say about the Laodiceans, but He still stood at the doors of their hearts and knocked. There is no door God does not have the power to come through, but there is one door He will not come through uninvited. That is the door of your heart.
What is the condition of your heart’s door? Have you sealed it with indifference? Have you locked it thinking you would be safe when all it did was feed your loneliness? God is knocking on the doors of our lives. Will we have the courage to open the door and let Him in?
