David’s Trust

David trusted in the Lord and had a loving concern for sinners. Verse 1 gives us a glimpse into his relationship with God. Because David had experienced the Lord’s goodness and faithfulness, he cried out with confidence for God’s intervention once again. Remembering what the Lord has done in your life and the lives of others is good! Remembering fuels our love and faith in Him. In verse 2, it is important to note that David’s audience changes from God to sinful man. It is not by accident or coincidence that David first communicates to God before addressing men. If you want to speak with wisdom and power, if you want your words to count, go to your Creator and Savior. May we be quick to listen and slow to speak and only speak with the authority we have in Christ Jesus. Charles Spurgeon wrote, “Surely we should all speak the more boldly to men if we had more constant converse with God. He who dares to face his Maker will not tremble before the sons of men.”

In verses 2-6, David urged people to turn from sin and put their trust in the Lord. He spoke from experience in verse 4: “The Lord hears me when I call.” Verse 7 shows that the joy of the Lord is inexpressibly more valuable than anything this world has to offer. Pray that God will give you boldness and wisdom to stand for righteousness and share His goodness with others today.
