Day 13
Genesis 28:1-29:35; Matthew 9:18-38; Psalm 11:1-7; Proverbs 3:11:12
The Father’s Discipline
Proverbs 3:11-12 – “My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.”
One day a man went to his pastor and said, “Pastor, I have to quit reading the Bible, it is interfering with my job.” “Why would you say that?” the pastor asked. He replied, “Because, I am a pick pocket.”
The Word of God does interfere in areas of our lives. As you read the scriptures, you will have your faith challenged, your thoughts and attitudes examined. You will even find your behavior and lifestyle confronted.
The Lord’s word is not unlike parental discipline. He has offered it to us because He loves us and wants what is best for our lives. To despise or grow weary of the Lord’s direction is detrimental to our relationships and our individual lives.
Examine your own attitude and spirit towards the instruction and guidance of The Lord found in His Word. Are you resistant, skeptical, or even rebellious? If so, consider contemplating God as a loving Father who seeks to give you a good life.
