Day 349
Micah 1:1-4:13; Revelation 6:1-17; Psalm 134:1-3; Proverbs 30:1-4
Come, Let Us Go Up to the Mountain of the LORD
Micah was a true prophet of God who was called to warn the people of Israel and call out the false prophets and priests of his time. Many refused to listen to Micah because they were convicted of their sin, but the false prophets and priests told them what they wanted to hear. The same is true today. When the disciples asked Jesus what would be the sign of His coming and the end of the age, He warned them:
“And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” – Matthew 24:11-14
Advent is a season of spiritual preparation and expectation for the celebration of Christmas. Although this meaning is sometimes lost, the second meaning is usually completely missed: spiritual preparation for the second coming of Christ. We are called to be ready and to stay awake. How do we prepare for Christ’s second coming? By staying in the Word and in fellowship with other believers so we recognize the true from the false.
We are approaching the end of our Bible Challenge for this year. For many, this may be the first time reading through the entire Bible, while others may have struggled to finish. Either way, what is important is that we keep reading and meditating on God’s Word each day for His instruction, encouragement, and preparation – we need this daily Bread for life. Always test what you hear, whether in the world or even in the church, to see if the teaching or prophecy is true according to God’s words spoken in the Bible. Then, we will be ready to greet our Lord on that final day.
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” – Micah 4:2
