Day 122
Judges 15:1-16:31; John 2:1-25; Psalm 103:1-22; Proverbs 14:17-19
Do Whatever He Tells You
The first miracle of Jesus occurred during the wedding feast at Cana in Galilee. Mary tells Him the wine has run out, but Jesus tells her His time has not yet come. She proceeds to tell the servants to do whatever He tells them. Mary believed in Jesus and knew what He was capable of doing. Because of her faith, He listened and acted, turning the water into wine.
Interestingly, the six large stone water jars were to be used for the Jewish rites of purification. The jars symbolize the old way of faith based on works, for which the Pharisees were continually rebuked. Jesus began His ministry showing a new way based on God’s grace and transformation. There was nothing the guests did to deserve the best wine Jesus had provided – they didn’t even know He did it! However, Jesus revealed Himself to His disciples and the servants who were willing to do whatever Jesus told them.
Like the six jars, God created the world in six days and on the seventh day He rested, seeing all that He made was good. When you believe in Jesus Christ, you can enter into God’s rest. Stop striving to be good because “he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion” (Philippians 1:6). Like Mary, ask and believe. Do whatever Jesus tells you. He will bring about a beautiful transformation, and others will know the difference!
