Limitless Possibilities
A Christian’s capability to change the world around him is limitless. We have the ability to shape the world and save it. This does not have to be done by preaching at the pulpit or going door-to-door with the Good Book, but it can be done with our lives daily. The most powerful thing a Christian can do is simply live for Christ. When we choose to profess our faith verbally, we take on the social pressures that come along with that. Everyone begins to watch and rightfully so.
James 1:19-2:17 shows us what it looks like when our faith becomes action and how to do it properly. We must not only read the Good Book, but learn from it and internalize it. Scripture is not meant to be just knowledge, but to be lived. A Christian who does nothing is no more than a decoration. The reading then goes on to remind us the danger of favoritism. Our actions are a double-edged sword able to bring people in and turn people away, if we are not careful. So often we take what we learn as Christians and try to change it to fit our social norms, but that is not what we are called to do. We are called to love day in and day out regardless of circumstance. A faith based in love should radiate love to others, but that is only true when we fully understand what it means to love our God.
