Day 33
Exodus 15:19‐17:7; Matthew 22:1‐33; Psalm 27:1‐6; Proverbs 6:20‐26
Marital Reunion in Heaven
When the Pharisees and the Herodians failed to trap Jesus with their questions on paying taxes, the Sadducees in their own smug way thought they had succeeded where the others had failed. Because they didn’t believe in resurrection, they thought they had the perfect trap.
It was the custom for a man’s brother to marry his childless widow. When she got to this heaven Jesus talked about, whose wife would she be? Jesus, of course, straightens them out by telling them they don’t know the Scriptures or the power of God.
“At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.” – Matthew 22:30
This is certainly good news for so many of us in today’s society. The widowed and divorced have had their question answered. I would like to think that we will all be brothers and sisters of Christ and be a part of one holy and loving family. I sometimes wonder if we will know everyone’s name. Wouldn’t it be a victory for our earthly lives to live in such peace without the frailty and concerns of our worldly existence?
