Emmanuel God With Us (Psalm 5)
It is so easy to think that we are all alone when the world seems to be falling in around us. It is speculated that this was written by David when he was being persecuted by many. Notice that he opens up his prayer of lament with a petition to be heard by God. He may have felt abandoned, but you can see that he is also very expectant because in verse 3 he “waits expectantly.” Not only does he know that God hears him but that God will act.
Isn’t it also nice to see that David, the man after God’s own heart, needs God’s help to keep those with evil intent from impacting his own life (v. 8-9)? That’s something we can all relate to. When we are surrounded by the lies of the world, we must ask God for His wisdom and discernment to know what is true. So learn from David. Pray, wait, and know the Word, so you can easily distinguish God’s voice from all the distractions.
