Day 317
Ezekiel 27:1-28:26; Hebrews 11:17-31; Psalm 111:1-10; Proverbs 27:15-16
By Faith
I love this portion of the book of Hebrews. We’re offered a list of amazing examples of faith throughout Scripture. Abraham, Isaac, Joseph, Jacob, Moses, the Israelites, Rahab—all beautiful examples of faith that stand strong through incredibly trying times. Often the faith that they displayed was in the face of possible death. This is something I need to be reminded of constantly.
Sometimes it is so hard for me to put my complete trust in God when situations get tough. This problem has everything to do with me—because God is always faithful. I can look back on my life and see where God has shown up in amazing ways, and, for some reason, my human condition still breaks through in moments of trial. I have every reason to be completely free from doubt when these moments arise. And yet, I doubt. Of course, that’s something else we can reference in this Scripture.
If you take a look at the examples given, one in particular sticks out to me. Hebrews references the Israelites and their journey across the Red Sea. They saw a miracle unfold before their eyes. It seems it would’ve given an unshakable faith to anyone who witnessed it. But as their journey continues, they begin to doubt. They experience thirst and hunger, and they doubt. It’s important to remember that this reaction is nothing new, especially not to God. But praise Him for His faithfulness to us. The truth is, He WON’T leave us. He WON’T forsake us. He will ALWAYS be there for us. So truthfully, by faith, we can endure anything.
