Day 340
Hosea 4:1-5:15; 2 John 1-13; Psalm 125:1-5; Proverbs 27:18-20
Human Nature
“There is no faithfulness or loyalty, and no knowledge of God in the land. Swearing, lying, and murder, and stealing and adultery break out; bloodshed follows bloodshed” (Hos. 4:1b-2). Hosea’s prophetic “indictment” against the Northern Kingdom of Israel was pronounced in the latter part of the 8th century B.C., but the situation described in the verses quoted above could very well be describing much of life in our modern society early in the 3rd millennium A.D. Some things never change, and human nature is one of them.
We, too, like the people of ancient Israel, have been infected by sin. All of us, leaders as well, fall far short of the behavior God hopes for in His people. But the good news for our generation is that God Himself has come among us in the person of His Son to provide a remedy – a way of escape for all who will turn to Him.
So let us not be discouraged by the horrific messages we encounter daily via TV and the internet. God is faithful to restore His wayward people. Let us be faithful to continue to share the message of God’s love and grace to all who are willing to receive its promise.
