Sharpening One Another

Day 318  Ezekiel 29:1-30:26; Hebrews 11:32-12:13; Psalm 112:1-10; Proverbs 27:17 Sharpening One Another I often say that our faith as Christians is not an individual endeavor but a communal journey. While it is true that we can follow Christ on our own and call ourselves Christians, it is equally true that being made in God’s…

By Faith

Day 317  Ezekiel 27:1-28:26; Hebrews 11:17-31; Psalm 111:1-10; Proverbs 27:15-16 By Faith I love this portion of the book of Hebrews. We’re offered a list of amazing examples of faith throughout Scripture. Abraham, Isaac, Joseph, Jacob, Moses, the Israelites, Rahab—all beautiful examples of faith that stand strong through incredibly trying times. Often the faith that…

God’s Multimedia Message

Day 316  Ezekiel 24:1-26:21; Hebrews 11:1-16; Psalm 110:1-7; Proverbs 27:14 God’s Multimedia Message Did you read the Ezekiel portion today? If not, I challenge you to go back and read it. It’s not an easy read even for us today, but for the Israelites it was a hard-hitting message. First, Ezekiel, at God’s instruction, boils…

Are You Spiritual?

Day 315  Ezekiel 23:1-49; Hebrews 10:18-39; Psalm 109:1-31; Proverbs 27:13 Are You Spiritual? “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” – Hebrews 10:24-25 These two…

Under Construction

Day 314  Ezekiel 21:1-22:31; Hebrews 10:1-17; Psalm 108:1-13; Proverbs 27:12 Under Construction Proverbs 27:12 – “The clever see danger and hide; but the simple go on, and suffer for it.” This proverb is very appropriate for the long reading from Ezekiel that scared me when I read it! The sword of God is coming, Ezekiel…

Reality Check

People tend to associate reality with the tangible, physical world we can examine and prove through our senses. The spiritual seems vague and elusive. That is natural, but it precisely backward. There comes a wonderful moment in Christian life when reality truly sets in – just as it did for those Apostles. The truest thing, the surest reality is Christ. His grace, his sacrifice, is sufficient. Everything else – our challenges, worries, joys, hopes, sorrows and sufferings – may then fall into its rightful place. When we feel overwhelmed, the cure is to come back to the ultimate assurance given in Jesus Christ. Now pray.

Chapter 8: the High Priest; Chapter 9: the Tabernacle; the second half of chapter 9: the Blood of Christ;…

A Sketch and A Shadow

Day 311 Ezekiel 16:43-17:24; Hebrews 8:1-13; Psalm 106:13-31; Proverbs 27:7-9 A Sketch and A Shadow It is difficult for contemporary Americans to grasp the place of the Temple in the life of Israel. The Temple at Jerusalem was not just a stunning building, overwhelming in its beauty and appointments, and the pride of Israel in…

Saved by His Grace

Day 310 Ezekiel 14:12-16:42; Hebrews 7:18-28; Psalm 106:1-12; Proverbs 27:4-6 Saved by His Grace Ezekiel’s reading today reminded me of myself when I first expressed a desire for Christ. This was a time of great expectancy when I would be given affirmation and insight to what this all means. As would be expected, I was…
